Two PULSI 200LR Multi Component Stack Gas Analysers have been supplied to a company in order to monitor the production of a chemical used in the synthesis of organic materials. The innovative measurement of maleic anhydride has been realised, along side the well-established carbon monoxide, carbon dioxide and butane determinations.

Calibration of the maleic anhydride vapour was performed over the 0 to 2 % range. The gas was supplied by a complex organic vapour generator that was developed in-house. It is anticipated that future calibration checks will be performed using a standard cylinder of nitric oxide.

In making their selection of analysers, the customer was concerned about the reliability and service requirements of those under consideration. As an in-situ instrument, the PULSI 200LR does not require filters, pumps, heated take-off, heated lines etc., all of which are known to require significant maintenance and additional cost. Indeed, the PULSI 200LR is designed for long periods of operation without any operator or service intervention. To facilitate this, the system runs diagnostic routines that warn the operator of any deterioration. These ensure that, in the unlikelyhood of any critical component showing signs of malfunction, the operator is alerted and preventive maintenance can be carried out.
