Press Release Ref: PC635
The Procal 5000 In-Situ, Continuous Emission Monitoring Analyser utilises absorption spectroscopy. The instrument stores and analyses a full UV spectrum, using advanced mathematical techniques, calculating the emission concentration. This not only enables the individual gases that the analyser is calibrated to monitor, to be identified, but also the concentration to be calculated and displayed. This technique has been successfully used to monitor low level H2S in the region of 1 to 2 ppm, with a background of SO2 in the region of 300ppm on a recovery boiler in the Paper & Pulp industry. The same instrument can also simultaneously monitor other sulphur bearing products, such as DMS and DMDS. Until the launch of the Procal 5000, the technique favoured in the Paper & Pulp industry was to monitor the SO2 level, convert all the sulphur bearing components to SO2 and subtract the first measurement from the second to determine the non-SO2 products. This extractive technique not only requires a sophisticated extractive system, but also requires a high level of maintenance to ensure continuous operation.
The Procal 5000, on the other hand, utilises Procals successful and proven In-Situ, Enveloped Folded Beam, sample cell. This enables the introduction of instrument air into the probe, thereby forcing out the sample gas and establishing a true zero. In the same way, certified test gas can be introduced to enable the calibration to be verified, and, if necessary, adjusted.
The Procal 5000 can be used for many other measurements, including NO, NO2, SO2, Cl2, H2S and many other gas phased components with UV absorption.
