Procal Analytics Improves Gas Turbine Power Station CEM

With the successful introduction of the Procal 5000 low level NO, NO2 and SO2 in-situ analyser, high maintenance chemilluminescent, Infrared and Ultra Violet Continuous Emission Monitoring extractive systems are being replaced. The benefits to the customer include accurate verifiable monitoring with very low maintenance requirements, hence low cost of ownership and high availability. The superb performance of the PROCAL 5000 has been achieved by developing a full spectrum Ultra Violet optical head unit incorporating the well-proven in-situ technology of the existing range of PROCAL analysers.

The Procal 5000 has been designed to withstand extreme conditions and therefore is suitable to be used on plants Worldwide. The instrument also incorporates an integral auto zero and auto calibration unit designed specifically to meet the requirements of Environmental Protection Agency Standards US EPA 40CFR part 60 and 75.

Typical ranges for gas turbine stations.

Range 1 0 to 30ppm NO
Range 2 0 to 30ppm NO2
Range 3 0 to 30ppm SO2

The Procal 5000 has also been designed to support Procal’s successful in-situ infrared analyser thus enabling CO, CO2 and H2O to be monitored and therefore with the inclusion of an oxygen analyser, the system if required is able to report on a normalised and dry basis.

The system will automatically zero daily. This is achieved by flooding the sample cells with instrument air and checking, and if necessary adjusting zero. To demonstrate accuracy certified test gas, traceable to a national standard, can be introduced in exactly the same way, either manually or automatically to satisfy the Environmental Agency that the instrument is within specification.

The instruments are connected to either a PC operating ACU for Windows software or Procal’s industrial PC (ACU), sealed to IP65 and suitable for field mounting.

At last the gas turbine power station operator has a cost effective, reliable method of monitoring and reporting low level pollutants from the station.
