Procal’s system is based around the PULSI 600 UV process analyser incorporating a monel process cell. The PULSI 600 field mounted multi-component process analyser is certified to EExd IIB T6. The generally accepted difficulty in this application is in monitoring chlorine in EDC in the presence of ferric chloride. Indeed the customer can benefit from not only monitoring the chlorine but also the ferric chloride. As part of the process, stainless steel tanks are sacrificed, resulting in the presence of ferric chloride. Conventional process analysers monitoring chlorine in EDC are subject to cross sensitivity from the ferric chloride which, due to the very high interference of ferric chloride, renders the chlorine measurement not accurate enough to be useful. The Procal solution incorporates a multiple wavelength and a chemometric mathematic which enables both the chlorine and ferric chloride to be very accurately determined and displayed.

This is only one example of the very challenging applications that the Procal range of process analysers has been successful in. Procal Analytics has supplied several instruments for this application, both in North America, Europe and now in The Middle East.
